Homes For Sale in Bowness, Calgary
In the early years of the 20th century, John Hextall sought to transform the land of Bowness into a residential area for bustling Calgary. He built a bridge and clubhouse, but it wasn’t until the 1920s that the community began to pick up speed with Calgarians. Its popularity was due large in part to Bowness Park, and after the Second World War, military housing brought even more to the neighbourhood. It was during these years that Bowness established itself as a small town with a school, fire hall, and two theatres.
In 1963 the community joined Calgary, and today it’s considered an inner-city community with a vibrant atmosphere. Its roots have garnered a strong sense of community that is often hard to find in some areas. The residents, called Bownesians, are very proud of their neighbourhood, and it reflects in their homes. Each residence is well maintained, and many have undergone extensive renovations.
