Vote for Kensington: Great Places In Canada

kensington homes for saleGreat Places in Canada is on the hunt for the country’s favourite streets, neighbourhoods, and public spaces. Canadians can submit nominations for their favourite places and vote to support their old and new haunts. It’s no surprise that one of Calgary’s best, Kensington, is in the running for top neighbourhood in the country. Kensington was a finalist last year, and we have high hopes for this year’s contest!

Other nominees don’t hold a candle to this vibrant neighbourhood. It’s home to the Sun and Salsa Festival, has an amazing lineup of local shops, and has some of the city’s best eateries—Crave Cupcakes got its start thanks to the area’s fervent support.

We love Kensington, Hillhurst and Sunnyside just as much as any Calgary resident, but we’d like to share our reasons for why Kensington is a great place in Canada.

Kensington Real Estate In June 2014

Kensington’s real estate market has always been bustling, and this year in no exception. In June, almost half of the listed inventory for the single-family homes and condos in Hillhurst and Sunnyside sold, and more properties were added. This is good news for buyers and sellers alike: the market is busy enough to provide selection, yet the area’s desirability makes for quick sales.

Kensington’s New Look

The BRZ has been lobbying for a revitalization budget, and recently saw their efforts gain traction. The neighbourhood will have a new face by next summer, aimed at increasing the commercial activity in the area. New streetlights, sidewalks, trees, bike lanes, and so much more are coming to the neighbourhood. Plans will be revealed this winter.

Hillhurst-Sunnyside Community

Just a year after a disastrous flood hit large portions of Calgary, the community has bounced back and is now stronger than ever. In the face of diversity, Kensington residents pulled together despite evacuations and flooded basements. The Hillhurst Sunnyside Flood Task Force was a result of the June 2013 events, and the group continues to collect data on flood prevention measures and to provide outreach services for affected residents.
