Stackable Residences: The Next Major Housing Trend?Calgarians enjoy everything downtown has to offer its residents, including cosmopolitan luxury condos and the contemporary architecture that seems to be taking over the city centre. These types of leading edge design experiments have long been considered the hallmark of such city centres. However, an exhibit at the Calgary Global Petroleum is indicative of an exciting new project that was spearheaded in Calgary but will be making its debut in areas of northern Alberta.

The project details a series of stackable, residential units that are fixed together to form work accommodation. While Stack Modular has created quick-build steel accommodation structures for work camps in the past, this is a brand new concept. Long gone are your days of cramped trailers and portable toilets. These stackable units look modest on the outside, but actually house luxury condo units. The original modules were modest and functional, but the company, recognizing the versatility of these units, has created a much swankier option for workers who have to leave the comfort of the city for weeks at a time. This has resulted in a highly efficient living format that could be utilized far and wide. Here are the facts about this inventive new system:

Creative shortcuts are becoming more popular as compact living becomes a necessity for many city-dwellers. Stack Modular's units, however, are complete homes, comparable to many of downtown Calgary's most sought-after condos. Each piece comes outfitted with 2 full bedrooms, 2 full bathrooms, and ensuite laundry. The units are available as one or two-bedroom homes and they comprise 900 or 960 sq.ft. respectively. Interiors are furnished with stylish, contemporary furniture.

The units' stackable structures have the ability to form a variety of larger complexes. These buildings can reach up to 8 stories high and can vary in shape and style. They form sleek, up-to-date residence buildings, akin to contemporary, non-modular condominiums.

A major benefit of this stackable design is its capacity for ultra-quick assembly. The time between the commencement of construction and the accommodation's arrival at its designated address is currently estimated at six to eight weeks!
