Calgary Patio DecorHave you been finding yourself looking out longingly at your backyard deck or patio and wishing there was an easy way to dress it up before the patio party season gets into full swing? A patio reboot doesn’t have to be a costly or time consuming project. We’ve put together some very simple tips that not only will be easy on your pocket book, but these projects will be done quickly enough for you to relax with a cool drink in your new backyard retreat that very same day!

      1. Throw Down Some Throw Pillows: Choose a colour theme and pick up some new accent pillows and cushions in a variety of sizes and patterns to instantly brighten up the space. Gone are the days of plasticky-feeling fabrics for outdoor cushions; you’ll find a variety of durable fabrics available, tough enough to withstand the weather all summer and beyond.

      2. Roll-Out an Outdoor Rug: Not only will an outdoor rug provide some comfort to your barefeet, it will make the area feel cozier. Try a brightly coloured rug that will match your new pillows and cushions to dress up your deck or patio.

      3. Place Some Privacy Panels: Adding fabric to a gazebo will create an elegant, private outdoor space. It will soften the look of a metal gazebo while also creating an intimate place to relax, and provide solace from the sun on hot days.

      4. Show Your Furniture Some TLC: A fresh coat of paint goes a long way. You’ll be surprised how great that faded Adirondack chair or bench will look with a new exterior. For those of you who aren’t keen on painting: use spray paint!

      5. Make a Splash with a Water Feature: Sound expensive? It doesn’t have to be! For those who enjoy the soothing sounds of water flowing, a battery or solar powered outdoor water fountain can be purchased at a very reasonable price. Another option is to take a large, watertight pot and fill it with water; add in some floating elements, like plants, flowers and some beautiful blown glass spheres.

      6. Plant for the Future: While seasonal flowers are pretty, this year why not invest in a variety of plants, shrubs and trees (if the space allows) that will survive the winters year after year. Then, once spring rolls around, you’ll just need to pick up a few seasonal flowers to round off your arrangement.

Once the summer season kicks into high gear, you’ll thank yourself for taking some time to update your patio or deck. Regardless of your style, you’ll want to create a place that you enjoy spending time in, from enjoying your morning cup of coffee or glass of OJ, to a lazy Sunday afternoon, to entertaining friends, to enjoying a cool evening’s breeze outside.
