So far, in the aftermath of this devastating flood, we’ve witnessed the true generosity of Calgarians and friends across the province who have been quick to lend a hand to friends, neighbours, and even strangers. If you’d like to help those affected by the flood, or if you’re in need of support, contact one of these organizations below.
Canadian Red Cross:
Make a monetary donation to help the Canadian Red Cross respond to the immediate needs of those who have been affected by the flooding. You can also sign up to be a short-term volunteer to help with the distribution of supplies to those in need; the Red Cross is looking for 25 distribution workers and 15 supervisors for June 28-30th. Sign up here.
You can also sign up to volunteer to help with flood relief or clean up. A variety of volunteer opportunities exist on the YYC Helps website.
Register to volunteer with Samaritan’s Purse to help in the flood recovery efforts. Volunteers are needed to help in the clean-up and recovery of flooded residences.
Calgary Women’s Emergency Shelter:
Due to the flood, the shelter had to be evacuated. This displaced emergency shelter for women and children is accepting donations of cash, new clothing and essentials such as Kleenex, paper plates, socks, towels, pillows and quilts to provide to their displaced clients. Visit their site to help.
The YWCA of Calgary is accepting donations to support the vulnerable women they serve, and for flood repairs. The YWCA focuses on women and their children’s support services.
Siksika First Nation:
The Siksika Emergency Team requests donations of household goods and baby items, plus clothing and more. You can also make cash or cheque donations. Call 403-734-3999, visit their Facebook page or drop off any donations at Deerfoot Sportsplex.
