Theatres across the city are gearing up for the holiday season. Whether you enjoy the traditional carols or spontaneous takes on the season, you’re sure to find a theatre near you with an entertaining performance. The vibrant theatre scene is offering classics, themed nights, and family favourites throughout the month of December. Here’s just a few offerings from the box office!
Taking center stage at the Martha Cohen this December is the spidery web of a childhood favourite. The story of Charlotte’s Web features aerial acrobat and actress Manon Beaudoin, who has created a vivid imagining of the character, thanks to harnesses and a trampoline that brings her spider like motions to life. The performance is accompanied by live music from the appropriately named Spider Bishop. See Charlotte’s Web in the Martha Cohen theatre until Dec 31.
A Christmas Carol
Performed every year since the 1983-84 season, A Christmas Carol has been a Calgary theater staple for generations. It’s seen many adaptations, each presenting a different take on Charles Dickens’ classic. Each year, you can expect to be transported by the immaculately detailed sets and costumes, let alone the compelling story telling. The tale features over a dozen carols performed by the cast, as well as skating scenes and plenty of holiday merriment.
Holiday Themed Murder Mysteries at Fort Calgary
For an intriguing dinner theater experience, head over to Fort Calgary. These show are quite unlike the ones mentioned above. At Fort Calgary, the spectator becomes part of the spectacle, participating in the improv show. Each show is a little different, but each time you’ll be hunting for clues amongst the holly and mistletoe. There are three shows for Homicide for the Holidays, which runs December 17, 18, and 20.
