It’s the last chance to visit the Market at Symons Valley Ranch for the ice festival! Head down this weekend starting on Friday, from 10am to 5pm. This year-round market has set up a carnival tent for ice sculpting, is hosting outdoor family friendly fun, and is open for your fresh food needs.
Live ice sculpting is the main event, with professionals giving demonstrations and teaching kids about the craft. Bundle up for the demo, then warm up with a treat from a local vendor.
Skating weather is in full swing, so you and your family have a few options on that front.
- A classic spot, Olympic Plaza’s skating rink is in the heart of the core and easily accessible.
- A game of shinney has never been simpler than at the Deer Ridge community rink. Volunteers make sure that this ice reaches top-notch quality, and with a separate rink for learners and a fire pit in the center, you’re sure to improve your skills while staying toasty.
- Hosted by the City, wildlife experts will create a new spin on skating at Calgary’s Prince’s Island Park. They’ll gather around the fire pit to share stories about the creatures that live in our city’s backyard. The experts will be at the rink Friday evening, and over the weekend from 12:30-4.
YYC Hot Chocolate Fest
It’ just begun, so you have the rest of the month to sample sips of drinking chocolate and spirited cocoa across the city. Chocolatiers, coffee shops, cafes and restaurants are all on board to raise funds and awareness for Meals on Wheels this winter. In a friendly competition, each will put forth their take on the classic winter comfort beverage in hopes of gaining your vote in the online competition.
Enjoy your weekend!
