For experienced Calgarians, the idea that this city is a bastion of cultural delights is no real surprise. While the residents of Cow Town certainly revel in the yearly stampede, many also enjoy other forms of culture and entertainment as well.

One such cultural extravaganza will be taking place starting this fall at the Calgary Opera for the 2011/12 season. The opera company is celebrating its 40th season this year with something old and new for opera fans to enjoy.

The Calgary Opera is one of the most successful opera companies in Canada and includes mostly North American performers in their productions.

The mainstage performances that you can see this season are:

  • Jan. 28, Feb. 1 & 3: Moby

Calgary has many interesting annual events and year-round attractions to keep residents and visitors entertained all year. But in Kensington there is currently an art installation in the works that defies what you might think about art.

A group of artists have been working on a mixed-media installation that embraces a variety of methods and has the added benefit of providing some exposure for each of the artists involved. There is an interesting assortment of sculpture built in and into the house, as well as some amazing (and bizarre) mural work.

The eight artists have been commissioned to create the installation, created primarily with found items, as a wedding gift for Calgary newlyweds Sara Simpson and John Johnston. While many exhibits might
